10 Words That Do NOT Translate Literally from Swedish to English
I took this from inspiration from my original post, with the funny photos, on Lost in Stockholm.
Here are ten Swedish words to not confuse them with the same meaning in English. And boy, some of them sound so funny!
1. Bra
på svenska – good!
in english – the thing women wear to hold their boobies up
2. Fart
på svenska – en fart – going, run
infart – entrance
utfart – exit
in english – when you let some gas out from your rear end
3. Kiss
på svenska – pee
kissa – to pee
in english – to place one’s lips on another person/pet/thing
4. Puss
på svenska – a kiss (the english kiss)
pussa – to kiss
in english – gooey stuff that comes out from wounds
5. Gift
på svenska – double meaning: 1. married; 2. poison
go figure, the swedes use the same word for love and death. perhaps they’re really smart people.
6. Sex
på svenska – the number six
in english – {i’m not explaining this to you}
7. Kaka
på svenska – cake
in english – a football player, a male body part, or a hindi word for uncle
8. Fan
på svenska – shit!
in english – a rotating object with blades that keeps you cool
9. Slut
på svenska – end
in english – someone you call when they steal your boyfriend/girlfriend; or when they are hookers
10. Barn
på svenska – ett barn – child
in english – red, country house where farm animals and hay usually reside in
